Heartbeat

I haven't written anything here for some time, but luckily for me, this is because I have had too much in my life to write about here rather than too little. Marriage, moving, chickens, may-poles, 10-year-olds, Florence, fish pies and poems have all made for much richer preoccupations than discourse, academia and language. More practicality, living and hot stink of fox, less of the thin gruel and abstraction. More air, more touching, more heartbeats.

Hi Fran - Thanks for your note! I have had a good summer - busy with making things like chicken coops and map-based websites - a weird mix of material and immaterial :-) As for Florence - both… we honeymooned in Florence in May, and baby, if she is a girl, may well be called Florence. I doubt there will be much that brings me back down to earth with more of a bump than a baby :-) j

I've been meaning to reply to this for a while Joe... just to say I thought this was a valuable little post and a reminder of the vital necessity of getting away from the abstract and immersing oneself in the ... what should one call it... the tangible stuff of life? I love your phrase 'richer preoccupations'. Sounds like a good summer and hope you have found it renewing. Do the heartbeats belong to 'Florence' or did you go to Italy?
